Triple Crown chasing Millions

Triple Crown is now a major contender for the Magic Millions after fighting off Magic Millions favourite Ambers Waltz at Randwick on Saturday.

Portelli said before the race that "Triple Crown had worked brilliantly on Tuesday and that the favourite would need to do everything right today to beat her. She is push button and when she drew 3 and when Ambers Waltz drew 13, my confidence grew immensely".

The punters didn't miss her in the ring either as she was the only horse backed to win the race. She showed good gate speed to sit third on the fence before Nathan Berry eased her off the leaders heels at the top of the straight to dash clear. Berry said that she started to ease when she hit the front but kicked back when she could see Ambers Waltz coming out of the pack, to beat her by a neck.

Triple Crown was bought by Vin Cox for Portelli for $60,000 at the Magic Millions. He also bought Koblenz, a Magic Millions contender two years ago, for a similar amount. Luck was not on their side that day as she drew off the track and jarred up badly on an extremely hard track. Ron Burns and Dennis Yopp share the ownership of Triple Crown and she has now won over $80,000 in prizemoney from 3 starts. Portelli is hopefull she can turn that into a million and eighty in two weeks time.
