Secret Lady secures Golden Slipper start

Mar 21, 2018

Secret Lady has secured the final spot in this year's Golden Slipper field for last year's winning trainer Gary Portelli.

The Choisir filly gained a start after Godolphin elected to bypass the Slipper with Encryption in favour of the G1 Inglis Sires' on April 7.

Ben Melham, who steered She Will Reign to victory last year, will be aboard Secret Lady.

Last year's Slipper was run on a heavy 10 track and it could be similar conditions at Rosehill
on Saturday, with heavy rain forecast in the lead up to race day.

Second favourite Written By is one runner who has experience on a wet track, having won his maiden at Sandown on a heavy surface.

Trainer Grahame Begg said while the Written Tycoon colt was probably better suited on a firmer surface, the fact he had experience on a wet track was a positive.

"He’s got through the ground. I think he’s a much better horse on top of the ground…but it’s something in his arsenal, he’s already shown he can handle a rain affected ground," Begg told RSN.

Meanwhile Coolmore has purchased a half-share in Todman Stakes winner Aylmerton in the lead up to the Golden Slipper.

The Jean Dubois-trained colt won his maiden at Canterbury before his narrow victory over Ef Troop a fortnight back at Group Two level.

It has been reported by Fairfax that Coolmore paid $3 million for the half-share in the colt by French sire Siyouni.
