Spaceboy steps out at Warwick Farm trials

Nov 10, 2018

The Portelli team had 15 entered for the Warwick Farm barrier trials on Friday 9th November and unearthed another smart two-year-old in Spaceboy.

The Deep Field colt caught the eye at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January being out of Miatoko (Danzero), the three-quarter relation to stable favourite, Testashadow.

Gary purchased the colt from the Aquis Farm draft for $200,000 and had him sold before the sale had finished.

He had the signature swagger similar to Testashadow who has won over $1.4 million in prizemoney for his connections, most recently running third in the Melbourne Cup Day Plate at Flemington over 1800m.

Spaceboy won his first trial by 6 lengths and made it look effortless - he flew the gates, lead throughout, being well-held over the 800m to run 47.37s and 34.10s for the last 600m.

Jockey Sam Weatherley was extremely happy with how professional the colt was for his first time around and felt that he would take great benefit from having that experience. He was the last to pull up and wanted to chase the rail down the straight on his own accord.

He will likely debut in the Golden Gift at Rosehill on Saturday 24th November with Sam Weatherley claiming 2kg.
